The Camera Obscura: Assignment 2

I. Depth of Field / Where My Eyes Cannot Go: [2h exposure, cloudy / overcast]

In taking this photo, I hid my smaller tin camera inside of a spider plant pot on the 9th floor hallway of plants. I see this photo in two layers; the first in its original form, the rim of the pot as the dark semicircle (left) and the tall windows anchoring around it leading to the swirling floor. The second is the developmental chemical layer: the white stain looks to me as a mountain landscape, featuring the dark plant pot and windows as its rising sun.

II. Duration / Sequence: [10 s / 15 s / 30 s / 1 m exposures in order, cloudy / overcast]

I took these photos across a span of about ten or fifteen minutes, just as the sun began to set. It was interesting toes how quickly and exponentially the exposure times grew in accommodation of the fading light. The first one is my favourite pinhole photo I've taken, to me it has a very delightful film noir quality.

III. Self Portrait: [1m exposure / partly cloudy]

I feel really happy with how this photo turned out; the waves distortion in the centre adds an interesting abstraction to both my face and the UHall architecture.

III. Self Portrait: [1m exposure / partly cloudy]
