Spelunking in Kananaskis
Over the weekend I took a trip to visit a cave nestled in Kananaskis. It was much larger and darker than I'd expected, stretching at least a few hundred feet within the mountain. From its furthest wall (before the tantalizing squeeze tunnel), the mouth is no longer visible, and silence engulfs the pitch darkness. My partner ventured into the aforementioned teeny tiny tunnel, only slightly wider than his body. It was really interesting to explore how sound travels while insulated by the mountain- as he went deeper and deeper into the tunnel, eventually his yelling faded away into an eerie whisper echoing from every direction. A little while later he emerged coated in a slick of calcite and gypsum, gifts from the cave.
