Diptych: Assignment 1

Plants & Animal / Parent & Children: I enjoyed the Wikipedia definition of Binary Oppositions, where Ferdinand de Saussure notes that a binary opposition isn't necessarily a "... contradictory opposition but a structural, complementary one." Plants and animals have complemented and duly provided structure to each other since time immemorial. Another point listed was that generally one part of the binary will assert dominance over the other: since we don't live in a rainforest, my attention and care are needed. My plants and I complement each other well; I care for them and they care for my mental health. I am one shade of green and they are a spectrum: where mine is artificial, theirs is natural.
